Hi guys, here's some photos of my new bike. You may have seen me on the Cotter recently doing 20kmph or on Mt Mac doing 10.

My chicken strips improving, rear tires ben fully rubbed edge to edge and rear strips on their way out but front there's still a bad 2 or 3cm...? In due time I guess.

    Mods:
    -Factory engine and clutch covers
    -Fork sliders
    -Arrow exhaust
    -MV Agusta keyring
    -Triumph gel seat

Have been meaning to do some group rides so might see some of you soon if I can keep up. Cheers

    Interesting take on "fully scrubbed"

The rear isn't even close to being fully scrubbed. And the front will always have a tad bit of a chicken strip. Maybe 1~2mm not your 1~2 inches.

Id just take my time mate dw about chicken strips and get used to the bike and enjoy it!

    Nice bikes though.

Nice bike. I think I might have passed you down south of Tharwa yesterday. I was on the Blue VFR

Focus on improving skills and speed gradually, don't focus on the chicken strips. It's all about being smooth (unless you're on a motard :p)

They are a very pretty bike! White is an awesome colour for bikes

Don't feel bad some people almost never get rid of chicken strips (myself included), certainly isn't required to go fast.

Does open you up to all kinds of ridicule when you fail to remove the pink writing people do on the sides of your tyres at Phillip Island though...... Hate you guys @MickLC @Lee @Trumpcard @Gosling1 :D

Lean angle isn't the be-all-and-end-all of speed. #thereIsaidit

Difference in width front and rear chicken strips gives you an indication of geometry of the bike. The lower it's sitting at the back, the further over the back will go and the less over the front will go and vice-versa. You don't want to run out of tyre at the front though, and if you steepen it up (drop the front/raise the back) then you run the risk of stability issues.

Done a suspension setup on the sag front and rear yet? Could be worth at least doing that.

Yeah, definitely understand that lean angle does not reflect speed or skill. And I try to use minimal lean when cornering but the difference between the front and rear strips is mindboggling. I'll have to reread the owners manual and have a go at the suspension.
    Then take Burnsey's advice.

    Its only $50 ;)

Made noticeable improvements to the bike. Laurie did say the spring needed to be softer for my weight (75kg) but it should be fine and to return if i wanted it adjusted differently.

WHAT, thats properly cheap :D I'll get onto it then, I imagine there would be a big improvement for me too. I cant imagine stock suspension would be setup for someone under 60kgs :\

As a practical example, we dropped the spring rate on a stock 675R down one or two rates for 90 kg riders at PI on supercorsas. That was for racing one at the 8 hour in 2011. So that wouldn't surprise me that maybe it's a touch stiff at the back haha.

That said, if it's too stiff at the back it'll be sitting up too high at the back and that'll tend to give you more equivalent chicken strips front to rear. It might also reflect how you're getting on the power, too.

If you look at the 4th photo you will notice they are fairly similar.

He's a freak. But he also gets the thing upright earlier and on the gas earlier than others. Jorge carries the lean angle for longer.

mate, that is exactly what lean angle reflects. MotoGP/WSBK riders are so fast while leaned over to the max, being able to feed in up to 200hp through a contact patch that is not much bigger than my avatar picture while cranked over at 55+ degress - because they have more skill in their toenails than just about this whole forum combined. Not the whole forum mind you ;) we have some very fast riders here.

yes he is, yes he does and yes that is also true - but the lean angle that Jorge carries for slightly longer - is not as great a lean angle than what MM achieves, and MM is doing the faster lap times.

Lap times are coming down every year because these guys can hold higher corner speeds for longer while cranked over further. Not because they are cranked over less.
