Just checking to see if anyone has a position out there for my 18 year old daughter. She was doing the hairdresser Cert 3 for a couple of years but has now realised that is not her career calling position. Has HSC, Childminding, Barista experience and customer service skills.

Looking for regular work in the city/southside area. PM if you can help out - many thanks.

If she can spin a good coffee mate, send her to braddon. Hipsters out of control. So many coffee shops have vacancies ATM.

I don't have any specific jobs to offer. But I have been considering sub contracting my own job out.

Shorty's bar in civic are currently looking for staff!
They also have a cafe in civic called TuckShop... Tell her to go in there to shortys or tuckshop ASAP with her resume.

I thought after a couple of years she had decided she didn't want to be a hairdresser though?

as a temporary solution, she can very easily get a job at clubs such as Labor club, Southern Cross etc. It's not a career path, but it's a hospitality job which is relatively flexible. It is shift work, but it pays okay until she figures out what it is she wants to pursue.
Happy to speak to you further if interested.

Worst advice ever. Make sure she stays as far away from these hell holes as is humanly possible.

Such blanket generalisation? Not my cup of tea but there are a large number of people that enjoy working in the industry (noting there are some that don't as well)

I think he meant the particular establishments, rather than the industry...

I enjoy working in hospitality so much I've done it as a second job for the last ten years.

That being said, I would rather shit in my hand and enter a clapping contest than work at most of those clubs.

well considering she doesn't know what she wants to do and assuming the bills need to be paid, perhaps instead of saying it's the worst advice ever, make a contribution of your own, which may be better?

It's a job, it pays bills until she sorts out what she wants to do. We've all done it, we've all hated it, yet it's an easy job temporarily...

If you read the post, it asks for regular work, which hospitality can provide. :up

APS job openings are so low at the moment...just out of interest, had a look at apsjobs website, there are a total of 6 positions (full-time, on-going, ACT) from APS3 to APS6.

ACT Gov seems a bit better - 31 full-time positions in the ACT advertised.

I reckon the best bet for hospitality jobs is to take your resume in to businesses and talk to a manager face-to-face. Beats looking for job ads and then applying. I got all of my jobs (cafes, restaurants, pubs, clubs) that way.
