    G'day everyone,

After 2 years of wanting to get on a bike, I finally went and got my Ls and I have the money ready to purchase my first bike [emoji1]

It's great to meet all of you and I look forward to having fun with some of you soon. I'm 20 years old and already have a full car licence so at least the road rules come easy right?

On a side note, does anyone know of some good spots near Forde and Gungahlin to practice slow maneuvers i.e. abandoned car lots?

    Welcome

you could try Amaroo school. There are car parks at the front of the school and also at the rear for the sports ovals

    Hello,

I might join those once I feel confident moving around a park slow enough.

At the moment, I'm tossing up between either getting a used Yamaha R15/Aprilia RS4 125 (4-stroke) or a brand new CF Moto Leader 150. What are your recommendations (please don't say Ninja 300 or CBR 250, I've been on the back of 250s and they're just a bit too much for me at this stage - 150 is perfect).

I've tested both and I like the Aprilia/Yamaha's looks, handling and engines - but I'm not sure if I'll get used to the bigger turning circle or riding postion just yet (not uncomfortable, just different). I like the CF moto's seating position and comfort, turns in well but it doesn't feel quite as stable in corners (a bit like an understeering Toyota - always pushing wider).

I suppose my question is: will I get used to a sportier riding position or should I take first impressions as lasting? Any help is appreciated

You will get used to it, they don't look too sporty anyway. Getting you body positioning right is the most important thing to being comfortable on sports bikes. Just buy the one you think looks the best, after all you have to look at it everyday.

Thanks for the tips guys, I elected to purchase the used Aprilia rs4 125 four stroke today (not those two-stroke ones, I prefer the four stroke). She looks pretty nice for a 125, in my opinion better than an yzf-r125

Welcome to the wonderful world of 2 wheels.
Don't be thinking you need to reach some standard before going to a practice session; the advice you get there may be the break-through you need.
I need to go for a short ride sometime this weekend to test out my re-built forks (thx SuspensionSmith). PM me if you're going to the Amaroo carpark - may take me a while, via the Cotter ;)

Wow, that sounds like a good price. Not that I know their prices but its a good starter. Welcome and yeh once you are a bit more confident get out to the MOST practices as you will get heaps from them.

Thanks Miggzie, unfortunately I have uni today so I'll have to pass but I'll join the facebook page and I'll catch up with you guys soon.

Yeah, she is pretty nice for a 125. I'm glad to not have to deal with the split personality (below/above powerband) of a Ninja while I'm learning.
