The one I'm waiting for is some poor sap get's arse-ended as they slow to turn left into Red Hill and the top of the crest, because some other poor sap is now forced to do nothing but watch their speedo (and no longer the road) as they travel along Hindmarsh.

What about all the small trucks/tradies with the big trays - the plate is hidden so far forward under the tray and behind the strapping bars that you can't see it from the car when you're following them... I'd love to see one of them get slogged for it, but there's Buckley's of that happening.

Youre kidding me.... I saw an old dude a couple months ago putter directly through the red light very close to that intersection! (this time it was the Ellenborough/Barton Hwy intersection)I wonder if it was the same person....
Oh and as we know yesterday was ride to work day... focusing on safety, how ironic.

Most P2P camera setups point both ways to get the front and back of the vehicles. And there'll probably be multiple cameras to make sure. My guess is that they will also setup a speed/red-light camera for the lights going to mugga lane.

I wonder how fast you have to be going before you can argue that the cameras are faulty and your vehicle couldn't possibly achieve the indicated speed.

    e.g. 1980 datsun 120B doing 200?

79 km/h, HJ60 LandCruiser. My old man, who also happens to be a lawyer. Stationary at the previous set of lights to where the speed camera was => impossible in said vehicle (tested & confirmed by retired road accident investigator). Definitely stationary at last set of lights as that set of lights had a red light camera & 'cruiser was first in the line of traffic & photographed stationary by the red light camera.

Those plates are fixed to a standard mounting point - they are not set up with some type of camera-avoiding device designed to conceal the plate.

There is a world of difference.

WTF ? The shit design of the car caused a death - and you think it's because of a lack of talent ?? Harsh call.

Would not surprise me in the least if it was the same old fossil.

absolute fucking tons. These sort of rego-plate concealing items can get you into a world of pain. But if that is what some punters want to get into - knock yourselves out.

Doing the speed limit is not an option ?

I should also add well done Mr. Fucknuckle behind the wheel for putting himself, his mates and the poor bastard they hit in the situation in the first place.... but that's a little off topic.

The new GDE is great to drive on now! The constant stream of traffic sits on about 90kmh, no problems at all. Nice, smooth and steady flows. Pity is, that apparently the GDE will be the next stretch of road to get the PtP cameras. Bastards!!

Do you think a cop would believe the filthy mud covered number plate when the rest of your bike is immaculate?

Aren't the sensors a back up for the cameras? So the camera would still get you?

    On the bike, most likely.
Well, first off, the rest of ones bike is usually not quite immaculate if there's that degree of mud on your plate. That what mud does if you ride in it - it sprays around. But secondly, what the cop believes doesn't mean much if it cannot be proved in court.

The presence of mud on your plate alone does not consitute proof that it was placed there intentionally with the intent to conceal. Neither does having clean areas elsewhere on your bike. It doesn't even prove that you're a sloppy bike-washer -it's entirely possible you hit a puddle since leaving home and just didn't realise. That is not an offence. Thus, any officer who attempts to charge you will need to provide concrete evidence that it was an intentional act - which is exteremly difficult with anything less than an eyewitness, or a blantantly obvious mud-paint. Unless, of course, they intimidate you into simply accepting the fine to avoid the hassle and bother of the big scary court system. Oddly enough, my personal experience with this matter is that once you make it clear to them that you will elect to take the matter to court, that charge quickly becomes a verbal warning to wash your bike more often.

I'll finish by clearly stating though, that one should indeed wash you bike often to keep you plates visibile, and I do not condone or encourage intentionally covering them in mud to avoid identification by an law enforcement body, which is indeed an offence. I'm simply stating that one should not let police intimidate you into paying a fine for an unproven assumption on their part.

So after the big build up, the cameras aren't officially 'on' until January next year.

Sorry to make you type all that. I guess it's not funny if you have to expain it, but it was a joke - indicating that I take great in keeping my bike clean and in great shape, only to have mud covering my numberplate.... "Honestly officer, my bike is just dirty by accident".

And how exactly does the camera know when to take a picture without the sensors?

They don't. My understanding is that the P2P cameras aren't cameras. Instead they're live video feeds with number plate recognition software doing all the capturing.

This is what I've heard and it makes sense to me...could be totally wrong!
