Guess it was only a matter of time before they started cracking down out there.

I'm fairly sure most of us have seen that already :)

I'd hardly call it a crack down. They post the types of media releases frequently when someone gets booked doing 50 or 60km/h over the limit.

Or perhaps we should all go there at once, and make one continuous line of bikes up and down Mt Mac.

Below is a copy and paste from ACT Policing Facebook group dated 28 April 2015. Maybe this will explain it all. Riders have been attracting attention to themselves. People are reporting it to the Police.

**** Police concern over speeding riders ****

Reports from concerned members of the public that motorcycle riders were travelling at dangerously high speeds on remote roads to the west of Canberra were confirmed last weekend when police patrolled in the area and detected one rider travelling at 149km/h.

About 12.30pm on Sunday 26 April, police detected a 23 year old man from Stirling travelling at 149km/h in a 100km/h speed zone. The man had a provisional motorcycle licence.

The rider was issued an on-the-spot infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h in a 100km/h zone. The infringement incurs a monetary penalty of $1,811.00 and 6 demerit points.

Police are again reminding the public that motorcycle riders are vulnerable road users, and speed is a contributing factor to many fatal collisions. A motorcyclist is among the three fatalities on Canberra’s roads this year.

ACT Policing will continue to enforce speed limits both around the city and suburban area of Canberra – and out on the territory’s more remote roads – in the belief that excessive speed places at risk the lives of all road users in the ACT.

Yep. The wrong kind of attention. Not that the knuckle-dragging retards who enjoy attracting attention to themselves will accept or appreciate how much they are fucking it up for the rest of us.

I had some time on Saturday afternoon so I decided to do a Mt Mac/Cotter loop. No sign of anyone at all! No cops, no bikes and almost no traffic.

My theory is that the ACT Police say they are having a crackdown on the Cotter and therefore all the people stop riding it! Maybe a couple of police patrol the road now and then to back up the idea but on the whole it is cheaper and easier for the police to say they are focusing on an area then actually going out and patrolling. Just like those signs that say that police are now "targeting ....". Be it seat belts, speeding or whatever but I never see them doing any targeting.

All said and done, I don't ride fast enough to warrant any special attention (well except for that long straight bit after Mick's Bends) and don't get a chance to ride that often nowdays so I am going to just go crusie the Cotter/Mt Mac whenever I feel like it :)

I wonder what land out there is worth.

Buy some acreage, chuck in a squiggly "driveway"...

Well there is all that land that was earmarked for a solar farm that got knocked back after the Uriarra Village NIMBYs got worked up into a lather about it. I am sure that a few sports bikes travelling up a down a driveway are no worse than some solar panels :)

they are patrolling it - count on it. How long does it take you to ride from one end of Mt Mac to the other - maybe 10 minutes max ?? Just because you don't see them in such a small window of time - does not mean they haven't already done 2 trips earlier in the day and 3 later on - it just means you didn't happen to be on the same road at the same time........

Just thought I'd update this one...
There were at least three separate cops out there today (yep Friday / weekday).

Jess in the Coffee Van said there was one this morning just above the pumping station (before the big looping corner at Casuarina), and I saw two others separately. Both on Mt Mac.

2nd one stopped me - they were set up at burn out corner, marked 4WD with lights on but static, two officers in attendance.
Nice guy. Said they had received complaints so were back out there and would be... not just weekends, but weekdays (obviously) too. Looking at cars and bikes.

Today looked like the full suite. License checks, car / bike checks, breatho and radar.

There was a very dejected young man at the bottom of Mt Mac that bought his 2nd hand gixxer at CMC last week and it was defected today (Akro pipe).
