I have now got myself a 1992 Suzuki DR250 to use for off road/Adventure riding, Iv had the DR now for just over a month and its an amzing little bike for what it is.
Being a 250 it does not have the most power in the world but its got enough to have some fun :)
when I got the DR250 it was set up for slow forest riding so it wasa geared up quite high (or i could mean low, im having a brain fart and Iv confused myself on which way was what) the gear ratio was changed from stock 16/46 to 12/52 (was reving out at around 90kph), first thing I did when I got the bike home/bought the part while driving back from picking it up (gotta love Ebay) was to get a 14T front sprocket and now it will sit on 100 with out having to rev the ring out of it.

It is a very happy bubbly bike to ride and is light so slow speed off road stiuations and quite easy to manage, the only down fall I have found so far is the kick start (I know, I know just suck it up and kick the thing), when it is cold it starts fine but when it gets hot and after I have fallen off a few times it does not like to start. But that been said its only down fall I have found so far :)

I am looking to set the bike up to do light adventure riding, so I have added BarkBusters to it and a front fender tool bag,
    Things to come:
    Rear gear rack
maybe look a bigger fuel tank?

So all in all I am in love with this little DR250 :)

looks like a great little extra bike!

After owning a KTM 520 and a XR600, and few older yamaha TT's - i reckon im with you in regards to the smaller bikes. if get another dirt bike it will be a smaller capacity like a WR250 or 300. It aint no fun trying to balance on one foot, on a hill, with a seat that feels 5 feet above ground, kicking a flooded bike over with the kickstarter.

plenty of aftermarket parts for DR's too - does it share parts with the DR650? they are common.

Update on the DR, got new tyres on it today, Pirelli scorpion xc tyres. Great feeling tyre for the short little blast on the dirt that Iv done so far.
Also got bar rises for it, 1" raise so standing is more comfortable now

That's a good buy, I'm looking again for a 250 off roader (sorry @Lurch, I can not resist!) hopefully the funds will be sufficient for a "big bike" too...
