    Why I bought a Cruiser.

    By Lurch

(aka, how to be disowned by Gos in 30sec flat)

As those who were at coffee tonight will know, the sky is falling, pigs are flying, and Lurch bought a Cruiser.

    But why?
    A few reasons.

I've had sports bikes for the last 5 years (as long as I have been riding, and I was looking for a significant change)

Jess was not a fan of riding on the ZZR, and before you all go 'Whomp-pish' and start making thumb on forehead signs; Jess riding with me is a huge part of what I enjoy about riding. SO it's as much for her as it is for me.

    I'm going *too* fast.
A couple of weeks ago was a perfect example - on the straight south of Point Hutt rd, I belted past some poor sap in a van at 260. I pulled up at Thawa and just looked at the bike and went 'That was really fkn stupid. And this was after completely butchering Mt Mac and nearly seeing air off the edge several times.
And I have a track bike now for these things. Come spring I will have all the opportunities I need to do the whole knee-down corning rah, rah. And thats where it should be left - the track.

I went and test rode a Rocket III. And it was life-changing. I've never head two wheels make me feel more at home. Unfortunately the Rocket sold, but I was bitten. So then went and rode a 109. And it was equally as good, if not better.

However I wasn't about to blow the budget out to $23g's (by the time I got all the acc I wanted).
So Macca (Denni) and I came to an arrangement for her 109 in exchange for the ZZR.
    Deal done.

So now I have in the garage a 2006 M109R, with all the accessories I wanted (and then some).
It goes as hard as a train, and corners surprisingly better than I think anyone who hasnt ridden one gives credit to.
    I love it.
I'm happy as Larry - and wouldnt go back for the world.
Riding the 109 isn't just a ride - it's an event. And I dont even feel like speeding on it. Just cruising along is the best feeling, and the hum of the pipes and that huge v-twin is just magic.

I realise I'm gonna cop all kinds of shit for this; but I'm sure you will all get over it eventually.

Good on you Lurch. If you're going to have a better time and stay safer on the 109 then all power to you. And it will be good for Jess to get on something a little more comfortable.

Well I don't really know all that much about motorcycles as I am a learner but as a fellow Suzuki Cruiser rider I say two thumbs up mate! After seeing the bike tonight.... I was shocked.... It made half of the other big time cruisers i.e. Harleys, Honda Shadow blah blah look like bicycles! Well done mate! Also much nicer then the 1500 Intruder!

Re: Why I bought a Cruiser

Have to admit cruisers are not my thing - I'm still an unreconstructed knee-down sports bike fan boy like the vanillavender posse. :helllo
But hey, as long as you like it who cares what anyone else thinks?
Half serious question - I take it the back cowl comes off for a pillion? And are there pillion pegs? (Can't see any on the photos the google machine showed me).

You change bikes quicker than anyone I know. :wtf I'm sure this one will last for a while, before the urge to get something else takes over.... ;)....

Hope the cruiser thing works out . How comfy are the pillion arrangements ?? I would be surprised if they were better than the ZZR ...

Jase - they go well beyond 260, Lurch just didn't pin it to the stop !! :haha

I was worried when Macca put "butterfly" (I do remember the butterfly's) up for sale.

I don't think it could have gone any better. "Phoenix" (I believe) is still in the CR family and Lurch and Macca are both happy with the arrangement.

Top out come I think. Congrats to both of you. :)

I'm with stupid. It's got two wheels and you enjoy it. People will give you light hearted good natured ribbing, me included, but hey at least it's not a Honda.

You're living the dream Lurch. I've only ridden one cruiser, but I can see the attraction in them. That Vulcan I rode was a beast but the 109 has a look that gives you pause. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.
