Just to save me time, do old K mount lens from 35mm cameras fit the DSLRs, if so (I guess no automatics) howdo the focal lenghts equate ie is a 100mm fl still give about the samefield of view/ frame size?

Yes. Pentax hasn't changed the lens mount at all. The only caveat is if the lens isn't a KA lens, you'll have to use stop-down metering. As for focal length, you multiply the 35mm focal length by 1.5 for APS-C sensors.

I might go looking for a body in that case, can get a 'digital' lens later to split the cost shock.

The focal length is more so you have a better idea of what you're doing. If you stick (as an example) an old A-50mm on (an old, full manual lens) and turn the camera on, the camera simply asks you for the focal length and f-stop of the lens and then you're right to go. And actually a lot of lenses that have auto-aperture, this still works on new bodies.
The auto-focus confirmation even works too.

Sounding quite promising, shame I was busy hunting bike stuff and food this morning (then it got so hot I just wanted to come home)

Buy the K-01 or K30 online. Seriously.
Tho; try and buy from an Australian distributor; CR Kennedy get funny with imports.

If you do get the K-01; see if you can get the kit with the 40mm pancake lens; its meant to be an awesome lens.

Is a pancake lens like a donut skid?

I'll probably wonder in to town tuesday and visit Teds to see if they still have any bodies on special in stock. I've been wondering about using my old gear so I appreciate all this info:)

    Cool,
Pentax MG body and the main lens Osawa MC 28-80 mm FL, both bought about 1982-3 as best I can guess.
I'm going into Fyshwick for bike tyres on Tuesday (probably) and thought if I can find a park in Civic I'd go to Teds and sus out the $300 body special which looks like a Vgreat deal. So if I do I'll take the lens with me ...
If I knew for sure I'd contemplate an on line buy but would like an alternative delivery point, out here they often just leave parcels on the road side under the mail box if they're too big for Ned (that's my mail box name - he looks like Ned Kelly) even though I've asked them not to:(

That lens should work. It's full manual but possibly with auto aperture.

Pretty sure it is, the body is only semi auto and doesn't touch the lens aperture but the 'tag' is in the lens at the union point to control the aperture.
It was a good lens, should have been too if I remember it wasn't cheap.

there is lots of bike parking in the carpark on the other side of London Circuit (over the road from Ted's at Bailey's Corner).
The carpark over the road from Tosolini's / London Burgers and next to the Playhouse / Canberra Theatre

Thanks David, but I'll almost certainly be in the car for various reasons, I'll just have to walk a bit I guess so try to be early before the heat.
