    Alex,

no, not in this case. However, I can tell you from experience that a FZR may not be a good option. They're grey imports and highly tuned - meaning pretty unreliable, and parts either mean a raping from a Yamaha dealer, or you wandering around the wreckers. You have been warned. Also, if you must get a FZR do NOT get the 2KR. That one is a very early 3LN. Listen to the voice of experience here!!

As long it's not flapping about or has sharp edges it'll be fine.

As Mitch said... However it may be worth taking someone with you to have a look at it before you buy it.

    On the bike, most likely.
22 year old bike with only 23000km on the clock? I'm willing to bet that for large portions of its life it's sat in a shed unused and unmaintained, or someone's wound the clock back. Neither of these are good things at all. Furthermore, for a bike of its age in general, age is likely to cause maintennance issues, unless it has been well maintained. As cbrrrz said, good parts are going to be hard to find and expensive. $1400 is also suspiciously cheap.

All that said, though it could be perfectly fine. Personally, I would look elsewhere, but at the very least, inspect and ride in the presence of someone mechanically minded.

I think most likely it has done 123000 km... alot of bikes only go up to 99,999 on the odo, in which case is expected for that age of bike.

For only $1400 it's pretty cheap and you'll probably learn a fair bit about bikes coz you may be fixing it as much as you're riding it. (not a bad thing IMO).

note that it was purchased from sumoto, have a look at netrider, or even a quick google to see the terrible reputation that place has.

    On the bike, most likely.
    Tips for first bikes:

    Preferably
-Look for common models (easy for parts and service). Examples include Kawasaki Ninja 250's, ER-5's, Honda Spada's or CB400's.
-40 000km or less (reduces likelihood of maintenance problems)
-No more than ten years old (same reason)
-Inspect and ride the bike before buying it.

These rules can be bent, but if you do, be extra fastidious in the inspection before you buy.
