    Haha, s'all good.

The seller will give you the current registration slip. Printed on the back of it is the "Notice of disposal". This will be filled out with their details, signed and dated. You hand this in with the RWC (Roadworthy Cirtificate, pretty much a MOT disk) and ID Check papers.

It's $55 to transfer the rego, + Stamp duty. Stamp duty is 3% of the bikes purchase price.

I bought my CB end of december, didn't register it until mid-January. I explained that there were no workshops open to have it inspected over the holiday break, and they waived the late fee - They may do the same for you too.

if it has nsw rego and you live in the ACT keep riding it till NSW rego nearly runs out, then get your roadworthy, ID check and transfer it over. Cashing in unused rego you will get SFA back. There will be no late fee as the vehicle isn't registered in the ACT.
You need ID checks for vehicles 10 years or younger from the year model on the compliance plate.

A hand written rent or board and lodging receipt with your A.C.T. address is enough for proof of residency.

Loop holes, they're not just for politicians and union officials.

I'll give them my sob story then and work the English charm and hope they wave the fee! I'll be moving house in a few weeks so it's probably worth waiting until I know my fixed address instead of using this address I suppose?

Wow lots of sneaky charges, and the stamp duty thing is a joke! I was shocked when the seller told me about that I thought he was having a laugh, I asked him if we can say the price was only $10 but apparently it's checked against market value etc..

That's not bad then, so technically I could ride the bike until the rego runs out and then do all of the messing around? or is that illegal?

Ah right ok, might soften the blow to my bank account this month then if I can delay all of that stuff until it runs out, only 4/5 months away but still a little easier I guess. Bikes 2010 so will need the ID check as well. Might be a dumb question but what's SFA?
    Cheers

I edited the above post and added a bit.

welcome to OZ :103.gif:and you just missed a good cricket season :ridgy

3rd party insurance on your rego is for the vehicle not your name, so you will still have insurance on your NSW rego regardless of whose name it is in.

Cheers mate! haha I don't follow cricket but I hear you guys are good at it? I'm a footy and union fan myself :)
Ah right that's good! In England insurance is ridiculously expensive (even 3rd party) and is compulsary - I paid around £2000 one year for a 1.4 litre renault clio!, but then I guess you have all these other fees and that stamp duty to throw your money at instead.

Hi and welcome. Some thing that you may want to know about for the bike is that, if it has an aftermarket exhaust it will probably be too loud for the rego or MOT inspection. A lot of people who install loud pipes keep the original for inspections and sales. Good luck and enjoy. Also if you get it passed for the roadworthy don't go to the ID check with anything not roadworthy as they are quite happy to re-inspect it to find a fault while doing the ID check.

Cheers pal, ahh I don't think he has the original exhaust :/ its got an oxygen sensor thing on it though so it will pass emissions, and he showed me a few little bits on the exhaust that make it so it passes inspections apparently? I don't know to be honest, its got a power commander thing as well to get the air/fuel mixture right but now i think about it i'm sure it runs on carbs not injection so not sure how that works? ill have to hope the person doing the inspection/roadworthy is alright and lets me off.. garages in the uk (that I went to anyway) are pretty lenient with bikes as they're normally bikers themselves so help each other out.

Emissions probably aren't an issue, I've never heard of someone with a standardish bike bing told to go to the EPA. Just make sure it's under... (96? someone correct me?)db.

Cans not too loud i had a little blip of it up the road, just sounds deeper than the standard tone I think, whats EPA? there's far to many of these 3 letter things going around this place!

Environmental Protection Agency, they test exhausts will a sniffer thingy to check emissions... the issue is that there is no EPA testing centre in Canberra, you need to go to Sydney!

ah ok, sack that I'm not getting myself up to Sydney any time soon! especially not for that, used to have one of them where I worked a little mass spec machine, in the uk every MOT station has to have one for an emissions test to make sure the car is road worthy.

BTW, that Hyo has had a tail tidy put on it, so it will fail roadworthy for that (due to no rear mudguard or rear red reflector)

Just to clarify, go with what @gazman said - My bike was ACT registered hence the late fee, and ID check age limit is now 10 years rather than 6. My bad.
