[IMG]RECOVERED RECOVERED RECOVERED - Broken ignition so cannt get the key in and check the steering lock yet but otherwise OK. Seems other bikes in the same building had broken igintions as well but not removed - Mine was the one that got away - albeit not for too long. Bike is now locked down, insured, has a Screamer disc lock on it and a tracker - (Hmm is that an overkill??? :-0 )

Happened last night we are sure as someone also had their car broken into - and supposedly a secure carpark!

Sadly not insured - so if any one at all can help with ideas on how to track it down I would be so grateful.

Think about suing the body corporate for not maintaining a "secure" car park

Before doing this, make sure that it is deemed to be "secure" in the wording of the document. If it is, then their insurance should cover any losses you have incurred.

When mine was pinched, although I was told that my car parking area was secure (word of mouth from the agent), there was nothing written down stating that it was actually deemed secure. As such, I was left in the lurch, and no changes were made afterwards to ensure that the problem could be mitigated in the future.

Not saying don't try, just saying investigate before going down any path.

Sorry to hear about your bike, I hope you get it back in one piece.
I wouldn't have thought a CBR 250R would have been a 'desirable' bike to steal though. The only thing that comes to mind is the culprit needed replacement parts/fairings for their own bike. Same thing happened last year with a brand new ninja 300 from memory.

If you do get it back, please get insurance...

@Trotski, I had a similar thing happen to me a few years back and we took it to small claims. It was 'only' push bikes that were stolen from us, but several cars and storage cages were broken into as well.
Because we were in a complex, we couldn't prove negligence or responsibility of either the body corporate or owner's. For all we knew, it may have been someone else in the complex that did the deeds. However, the magistrate did rip into the owner for his smug attitude and explained that had our unit had its own garage he would have been responsible for maintaining security. He changed his attitude very quickly and didn't talk much after that.

I have noticed that these kind of 'petty' crimes are becoming more prevalent over the last few years. If it's not bolted (or should that be welded?) down, it's fair game. Pretty poor reflection of the society we live in, but that's just the way it is unfortunately. There was plenty of discussion and opinions on the subject in @Bandra's thread; so probably not much point in thrashing it out again.

That sucks. I followed one of these on the GDE yesterday about 5:00ish heading out towards Nugunawall, but I think I see him regularly so I better not run him off the road. Any identifying features (I'm guessing no considering the low k's).

Sorry to hear. Is there anything on the bike that might set it apart? Different mirrors, exhaust, stickers, etc..

Unfortunately 'secure' car parks are never secure. As many people, myself included, can attest to on CR.

if the carpark is being marketed as "secure" then they need to held to account for it not being so

If someone cracks a safe, you can't really sue the manufacturer of the safe. Unfortunately, secure carparks are rarely that secure - they're more 'secure' than parking out in the open. Rarely do they have ANY provisions of guaranteed security.

It is possible to pursue them but unless they have been grossly negligent in the security access (i.e. they haven't fixed a broken gate or a hole in a fence) then you're SOL with that angle.

To the OP, good luck finding it. Unfortunately bikes go walkabout all too often in Canberra.

yes that's the question, one definition of secure "is being free from danger or loss" , I do understand that carparks are not actually secure, but it really irks me when some real estate freebooter makes claims (no doubt at an additional cost to the Renter/purchaser) that they can not back up and will then run from responsibility, truth in advertising/marketing is needed

but you can look to the owner of the safe, who purported to you that your goods were "secure" in his safe, to make restitution

Without an answer to this question its VERY difficult to help. A repsol 250r is a very very common bike.

    I think thats standard.

I saw one in Woden today that hat 'Satu Hati' on the otherside of the bike, a quick google says that means 'One Heart'
