    Hi all

I did a bit of a search, and the only NBN thread I found easily was this thread here
That thread was really before the true rollout, and was focusing on the retail prices, amongst other things.

I am hoping this thread WON'T become a thread about whether or not Labor or Liberals versions are better, any of the politics, the costs to our nation, or any of those higher issues that are really beyond our influence and control.

I am curious to hear people's thoughts from those that have it.
What speeds they have, and whether or not they are happy with it.
Whether they have had any reliability issues, and who their provider is.
What sort of phone options did they choose (or not)
Whether they have changed their plans or have any regrets.

Long story for me here is... all my neighbours that literally have street access have NBN but I don't.
I'm an internal townhouse / internal block, and whilst the fibre literally has come to within 3m of my front door... allegedly this fibre will be shared by me and my two other neighbours who have internal / battle-axe styled blocks as we all share one drive way. I know that won't be an issue per se... if I can actually get NBN, or their local sub contractors, or any provider to work out how to splice the fibre into three so then I can hopefully get a standard NBN install.

I actually had Telstra business ring me today and are offering to investigate this further for me (yeah I know Telstra pretending to have customer service eh?!??!!). I have stayed away from Telstra for home internet for a range of reasons... and I am likely to still look at other providers as well, but if Telstra can get me onto the NBN.... mmmm anyway. Back to the topic at hand.

Discuss, comment, and I would appreciate input from those that have NBN.

I am pretty sure Max has NBN out in Palmerston ? So does Swabio but he doesn't get on here much. Would love to have it at my place but alas no plans for our end of Belco at this time :(

yeah I think you are right Madmax does have it... meant to chat to Alex about it the other day when we were chatting. I am aware of a few CR folk with it.... thus this thread.

I've always wanted it... and tried 12 months ago to get it when my neighbours did but kept getting blocked and mis information. Telstra's random call today has re engaged my interest to retry... whether it is via Telstra or someone else.

I thought Vid had it too. I'm with gos in the Belco backwaters, but I'd give my left nut to get FTTP here, with Internode, and with usenet access :)

I've got the NBN. Had it for 9 months.

I'm with iinet. Had on outage for one day. I'm on the slowest connection (12MB down/1MB up). Can use 2 devices on youtube at once. Any more and you might want to up the speed. No fixed phone. I pay about $60.00

The main problem seems to be finding competent contractors to get the service up and running . Some people have had it set up but had 9 different people look at it to get it working. I think once it's up and running it's fine.

thats worst case you don't hear about the successful connections

I have had it for a fair while now (Gungahlin), with Telstra, and have had no issues.

Connected and functioning from the 1st time Telstra walked in the door.

I have 25MB down, 5 MB up, and any time I do a Speedtest, I appear to be getting what I am paying for.

Very happy with the outcome. Please note, I am also a Telstra employee, although that doesn't make my service work any better :)

I have had it for 4 months on the 100mb plan best I get is 40mb. NBN people are not on my Christmas list took 5 months to get connected. I have been told they can run 5 different ISP from one connection. Is it out of this world fast no. I can stream full HD movies yes.

We're in Gungahlin as well, had NBN from the first week it was rolled out in Canberra through iiNet :D
Funnily enough the houses on the other side of the street didn't have it for ages (I think they do now though).
    Pay $100 a month, 500gb each way.
    100/40Mbps advertised, we realistically get 97/39Mbps \o/

Had an outage ones I think for a few hrs and that was it.
3 PC's, server and a media centre seem to like the good ol' fibre and so do we... actually no, we love it :)

I have been on the NBN for a while now (almost 12 months) signed up as soon as it became available. I am with Telstra as when I signed up they were the only one's offering it in Ngunnawal.

I am on the 25mb/s plan and when I do a speed test that is what is what I seam to get. For me it is blisteringly fast but I came from ADSL 1. I can down load a high def TV show in about two and a half minutes if there are enough seeds.

I went for the full home phone package as well I get unlimited and untimed local, national and calls to mobiles. Costs me about $130 per month I think and get 100gig downloads.

Probably better packages out now but I haven't looked for a while.

If you want to know anything else let me know.

From all reports (seriously, check out RiotACT. Lots of first hand accounts there) the biggest issue is getting the connection up and running. There seems to be a lot of cases where nobody seems to want to take responsibility for their part of the install, and multiple contractors are needed.

I'm yet to hear anyone complain about reliability. I would be very surprised if fibre was less reliable than the copper/RIMs/minimuxes we've all been using.

Had the house in Watson recently connected to the NBN. Low spec plan as not high user and old one was Telstra adsl 1. Provider is iiNet. Easy install. Maybe 2 hours, wasn't long but I watched and made sure it was a neat install. Think where you want it installed inside. Needs a power source. Most times they want to install it in the garage which isn't ideal as usually not centre of the house for wifi signal. No phone. Only 10meg down but has a really good ping.

Out at Forde ive had fibre for years as part of transact. Provider was grapevine which is now iiNet. Ever since NBN came online ive had a number of dropouts. Also fibre transact is moving to NBN. Which means I can go a no phone option but will loose my fibre feed free to air tv which has been 100% perfect. Means a crappy signal external antenna is required. I have double that at least but a worse ping in low 20s.

thanks everyone... and keep them coming!

Lots of info here confirms what the dramas I've already had with NBN ? Downer EDI and even at one stage they claimed TransACT was doing the last step of splicing (despite no TransACT being available in my area).

I did like the iiNet plans, but maybe IF Telstra claim they can get me onto NBN then maybe saying yes to them might not be the worst thing in the world (not that they have made that claim yet... and will ring me back on Friday).

I have stayed away from bigpond for years due to poor prices... but maybe it's time to reconsider them.

If Telstra can get you connected, there is no reason that the other ISPs offering NBN services can't. I'd contact them and try them out before you commit to HTelstra ;)

    I wish...

I'm in Kaleen with Internode naked ADSL 2+ and we get at best 2.5mbps download and a pizzling 0.4mbps upload and regular dropouts (like more than daily I reset the modem). I would literally kill for the Australian government's original NBN plan. But will take what we can get once fibre comes down the street, it must be getting rolled out into Lawson as they are only running fibre into greenfield sites so hopefully it isn't far away, mind you it was the 21st century a few years ago now...

Don't get me started...@Jessa can tell you about my rants :p

    A very big +1 in fact +1 :)

My parents have Telstra contacting them at least 3 times per year offering to connect them to ADSL through some all in one, you beaut package. Even though the copper they are on is fed via an old RIM that will never be ADSL enabled. They tell the Telstra telemarketer so, but always get "Oh no, that's only for non-telstra providers, we can connect you ASAP" but of course they cant.

I'll tell you when they install NBN on my side of the street! Interestingly, my side of the street all the houses have been completed, but the other side only has one house, so at best they've managed to sign up 1 house out of about 50 in my street
