Hi everyone! I'm new to the Dirt Bike riding in Canberra because it sounds like an interesting hobby. Been googling where I can actually ride a dirt bike though I haven't chosen a bike yet.

I don't have any friends who know much about dirt biking so I was wondering if anyone out there don't mind helping a hopeless newbie out?

I'm an asian girl (might explain why I don't have any dirt bike riding friends) currently living in Gungahlin, and definately happy to meet up for coffee for a chat. ^^

Last but not least, wanted to say hi to everyone... HELLO!

    Welcome :wave

We have learner rides heading out in the Brindies fairly often so keep an eye out for them in the events section and you'll be more than welcome to tag along!

Hey mate there's quite a few people that are into the dirty business.. Myself included.. We have the dirt riders section on this forum and there's also http://www.dirtbikeworld.net/forum/index.php

Popular places to ride are the brindies and tallagandra (sp) and there's usually a few people that head out most weekends, I've put a ban on myself as it's too close to my wedding/honeymoon to get hurt now LOL... @Oskisar and @mskimmi are two other lovely ladies that enjoy the off-road rides too..

    Welcome.

There are heaps of awesome people to go out riding with so once you've got a bike you'll be sweet. As said above, Brindabella and Tallaganda State forest are popular (and the only ones I've been too) but if you're willing to get up early enough, there a few other places around :) Depends what you're into, trail riding, or track/jumps etc

Ill probably see you at coffee!

Must be all that living in Gungahlin that means you have no dirt bike riding friends - you'll get some here! Okisar and I are both Northside, I am probably 'upper northside' though.

Theres also the DSMRA - need more girls out there! When you get a bike let us both know and come along for a ride.

Thanks for the posts so far guys!! I think I'm into trails first? Hopefully I'll be able to find the entrace to Brindabella or Tallaganda.. that's partly why I am hoping I find someone to tag along the first time because I'm sure I'll drive straight past it.

Thanks Kim~ the DSMRA looks interesting and I might show up for the meeting this month? Will you or Okisar be there?

How do you guys get the bikes to those locations? Do you all have trailers or something? (sorry for any silly questions!)

There is always a meeting place and time posted for a ride. I have a mo-tow for my bike, others have trailers or the back of a ute. I just go to rides, haven't been to an organised meeting. Its all good - you wont get lost finding a ride, or on one.

If you need help choosing a first bike there is always plenty of advice around here. If you find something you like let us know and we can give you our opinion as well. When choosing a bike you have to ask yourself if you will be riding on the road or just on the dirt, your height and weight are important too although we don't need to know specifics about your weight :)

It's usually easier if you have a bike trailer, ute or a carry system like Kim which plugs into the tow bar of your car. The other option is to ride out to the forest where everyone is meeting up and get re-fuelled before and after the ride, many people carry spare fuel and are happy to share if something is worked out in advance.
