    Hi All,
I just signed up but am interested to learn about whether there is much offroad fun to be had close to Canberra? Having ridden my whole life I'm not that keen on riding for miles to go down a 20min stretch of dirt. Are there fire trails and single track that are easy to access?
    Cheers

Someone recently posted up a map of where you can and can't ride around here, I had a quick look but couldn't find it. Anyone? Most tracks that you can't use seem well marked anyway from what I have seen just driving around these places.

Basically you can ride anywhere but if you ride single track (except within the area that is now designated for the proposed future off road facility) within the ACT the rangers can now slap you with a hefty fine.

Or you can go to Larbet Rd not far from Braidwood plus some other pay to ride areas you can google.

Thanks for the welcomes and responses. Its a bit of a blow that there are so few places you can go off track in the ACT. Although having said that there still looks to be a few places to have some fun

It annoys me that bikes and 4x4s get the blame for erosion when nothing is being done to control the blackberry and promote increased ground cover in those same areas. And 1500 bucks!

I ride a kawasaki KLR650 with a standard 22 litre fuel tank and my brother rides a Suzuki DR650 with a larger aftermarket fuel tank.

We find Canberra a good place for our bikes. We do not have to ride for hours to find a dirt track.

    Our two favourite rides are:

    1. From Araluen along the Deua River to Moruya (it has been burnt out recently, but it will recover).

    2. From Wee Jasper to Tumut.

These dirt roads are not single track, but both suit our bikes.

The petrol station in Wee Jasper has closed.

Hey man.. I can't see the link of the map lebster posted but the cotter is unreal for riding dirt bikes... now I'm unsure of how legal it is. If it's not the coppers tend to turn a blind eye... been out there for years and haven't seen one.

Hi - Probably not the best spot to ask this - but is anyone interested in joining me for a short test ride down the cotter tomorrow (friday) after work? I just got a new enduro bike and am dying to take it off the bitumen! It will be pretty tame - I'm thinking public access roads and maybe an easy single track are on the cards...
Happy to hear if something has already been organised or if I need to read up and post somewhere else in this forum (ie. DIRTriders)
    Cheers

I can't tomorrow but can probably do Saturday morning if you get stuck.
