    Hi all,

So last night with all that wind we discovered a new problem at our new house. The phone line from the pole to the house vibrates like a b!tch in the wind which in turn vibrates right through the rafters above our bedroom. First question; has anyone else had this problem before? Second Question; If not do you have any suggestions to fix it?

I'm trying to get a ladder so I can maybe attempt to loosen the line a little so its not as tight as well as check the board that its attached to to make sure its screwed down tight. Some people have suggesting hanging something a little weighty from the line to stop it moving..?

    Thanks in advance!

Report a fault to your Service Provider (Telstra, Optus or whoever).

They will send a technician to check it.

If you mess with it in some way, and then your phone stops working, you may get charged to repair it. Best for them to have a look first.

Plus if it's looser it'll move differently, might actually induce more electrical noise as it moves futher back and forwards.

Usually they're installed with a straight reliever arm off the house, that's the bit that takes the load, and that might not be quite so well attached.

But yep, +1 on chatting to people first, if you have a land line service then it's Telstra's responsibility as they own the line all the way up to the first plug inside the house.

Rightio, i'll see what Telstra has to say about it i guess. I personally think its where the telephone line is mounted on the side board of the roof. I think that board is vibrating with the cable and hitting the beams in the roof causing the noise.

So i finally figured out what it was after sitting outside for 20mins today watching. Its the tin weather sheeting right near the telephone line that's got a slight 1cm gap between it and the timber which when the wind gets under it vibrates!

Am kinda hoping you sat out in an deck chair and drank a beer while you observed this. Seems appropriate.
