Yamaha TRX

So, after a tip from @Lurch in the For Sale and Wanted forum (thanks mate!), I parted with just a tad over $3k for this 1986 TRX. I think it makes those Chinese 125's look a bit lame for the money...

The noise this thing makes is just amazing. Luckily the bike came with unused original pipes as well - so rego was no problem.
The brakes and suspension need a bit of attention. The forks are waaay to soft and the back seems rock-hard. I've bought a set of front brakes from an R6 that should bolt straight on.
Now I'm trying to decide whether to ditch the fairing or not. I've seen a few pics of these done up as nice cafe bikes, but I'm not sure yet.
If the weather picks up a bit I'll see some of you at the next coffee and You'l hear me from a few blocks away!

Leave it, it's to cool to turn into a cafe latte. Nice bike and yea, gotta love that sound best sounding parallel twin ever made i reckon

 

If you dont want to go the full cafe-racer - they do look good as a simple naked too.
Or just get the fairing painted by @redbackpaint

 

You'll have to show it off Ray, not much of a classic bike fan but that has me very interested. Especially after a little bit of googling!

I reckon keep the fairing, or maybe changing it for something similar but a bit smaller. Too cool to be made nude.

Binksy, what kind of Yamaha fanatic are you, if you didn't know about your BigWang R1's ancestors..? Poor form

 

The fairing on it is starting to show signs of fatigue (the rest of the bike is in very good nick - probably because of the 28 years of dirt and crud that was protecting it!) so I'm thinking go naked first, then maybe look at a 900SS replica fairing which is a bit more svelte.

 

Yup. Pretty much exactly what it needs, at least side profile. Maybe a different headlight though.
Best thing is, you can make it EXACTLY how you like

They're widely considered one of *the* most underrated bikes ever mass produced.

 

I think it was Dunstal that made a twin light fairing similar to the SS Ducati one and it would be very cool. I had a friend with one on his S2 and looked much better than the standard

Great bike, always a classic in my opinion and ridden well will scare alot of big bike riders. I'd leave the fairing on I reckon it makes it look a lot better.

Nice pick-up Bionic. Really good fun bikes that can be pedalled with gusto. There was a TRX racing up at Eastern Creek in the PCRA last weekend, I think it was the first time out for this bike. Pretty stock but still looked good.

Personally - I would ditch that fairing and go for the classic cafe-racer look. A pair of chromed megaphone pipes - one out each side, a set of clip-on bars ......and a good paint-job. That would do the trick. A set of nice wire wheels would look awesome.

Wasn't the JPN the shape was very similar to Ducati SS - doesn't really matter as Id guess you can no longer get them.
