Rad in, wiring mostly sorted for EGT sensors, just gotta sort out power. Definitely won't be pulling it off the DC voltages out of the back of the CDI, it's definitely not very regulated and peaks at about 18V. Fine for the CDI, not so fine for the purposes of powering a gauge.

So tomorrow I'll suss out something using 12V car alarm remote batteries.

    Photogenic lockwiring.

Yeah looked into the specs, need something a bit gruntier with the rectifying. Basically build my own small reg/rect, cause it's got a pretty AC look to it too.

Shows how good the coils are, cause they cope with it just fine :).

I'll probably build something in the offseason in a nice little alloy case as a heatsink. Would be good to have a really nice source of power cause then I can justify building a better data logger. Also means I could update the old mechanical tacho :).

Yeah I think that's part of the reason most run the tacho with its own battery

Yep. So I'm just going through the process of making up a bunch of car alarm remote 12V batteries into miniature power packs. That'll get me through this weekend :)... (and it's been a long time since I've directly soldered fly leads onto an alkaline battery).
I'd be interested in trying the Koso miniature reg/rect but honestly it's damned expensive and I think I can design up something better.
