Hi all, this car driver is very dangerous so beware.
At 08.50am Wednesday 14 Oct 15 I was stopped at the intersection of National Cct and Canberra Ave on a RED light, when I noticed in my mirror a movement. A red car was nosing out into the lane for oncoming traffic. As I watched the car pulled out into the lane and drove on the wrong side of the road, over double unbroken lines and then drove through the Red light toward oncoming traffic that had the Green light, turned right onto Canberra Ave toward State Circle. The other traffic had to stop to avoid this car and I did hear horns blowing.:14.gif:
I was stunned a bit but when I reported this to Police they said unless I have video they won't do anything as it is my word against theirs. If I have video they can talk to the driver. For F..k sake, if the cops don't care about this type of driving then why wouldn't they keep doing it. I don't use facebook or anything like so if someone wants to put this out there, please do.

    DC = Don't Care, maybe?

I've seen some interesting driving during my work day as I'm out and about..
it makes me wonder why more people aren't dead..such a joke.
Although there are the warning signs in Canberra PEOPLE DIE ON CANBERRA ROADS
    I've always loved that one..

Seriously? What do you expect the police to do when you have no evidence?

More like a diplomat who has come from a country that drives on the other side of the road, by the sounds of it.

Hi Michael, I have video but I am not going to the trouble if they are only going to talk to the person. I told them I had video and they said they could only talk to the driver if he admits he was driving, no charges. So, no charges, who cares. I am stunned by the Police saying they can only talk to the person if they admit to driving.

Yeah.. which makes it ridiculous that this can happen. The things I know about people who get behind the wheel almost makes you want to stay home forever .psychotic, on drugs etc.... Almost.... Yeah ok, never..

Do you only care about them being charged? A good talking to can be just as effective and is preferable for the majority of people. It is actually better than giving a fine because you aren't pissed off for the rest of the day or journey.

Id assume your video isn't clear enough to identify the driver? As in in court someone could look at it and say "that's definitely the guy".

No, for that I would have to be at the front window facing in. But, I am assuming, that each car for a High Commission or similar has to be controlled and have a responsible person when taken off grounds. A logbook etc.
Anyway the whole idea for the first post was to make people aware of what is on the roads. My rant about how ineffectual the system is was just that, a rant.

Alas the diplomatic cars often fall under a 'we don't care'. Some people call it diplomatic immunity (it's not that simple), but yeah alas they often care very little.

DC plates in general should be regarded with caution. It sucks, and it sucks the police don't want to chase it up, but these things are often low on their priority lists.

I should point out until a few months ago I was driving a "DC" car so some drivers are good looking debonair gentlemen about town who exemplify not just good but awesome driving skills. So lets not start a "all tradies/camrys/hi viz wearers/ 4wders type generalisation rant.:10.gif:

So if the police came knocking on your door and charged you with speeding because someone reported your rego number you would be pleased. I personally am against even video being used as evidence due to the circumstances of such events not being identified. I obtained video evidence of a theft and was told it was inadmissible due to no signs indicating video surveillance being taken. I'm so over cars and bike riders with go pros it's just big brother

Strangely enough I drive with 4 to 6 cameras operating inside and out, so if someone makes a complaint or I am involved in an incident the police can look at the video and determine if it was fact. It also has in many cases shown the complaint to be false, as with most things there is good and bad, but in the end I know that if I do something stupid I will more than likely get busted. Do I care? basically no, as I do drive responsibly. If I drove on the wrong side of the road through a Red traffic light at oncoming traffic, I would probably be in jail or at least out of a job, and that's what should happen to that person, IMO.
If a friend or family member was run down by someone doing this, I would find it hard to understand anyone backing them up.

This happened to my uncle who had driving experience of over 30 years in the Philippines where we drive on the right side. He's been driving here for about 2 years but it just had to happen someday. :109.gif:

Unfortunately the Police can only discuss the issue with whatever Embassy the car belonged to after following a bunch of diplomatic protocols. And they can only take action if the Head of the Mission allows this to be done.

Its called Diplomatic Immunity. You may not like it, and the Police may not like it. But that's the way it is.

surely in some cases they would be able to 'pass on the incident' to the embassy and allow them to handle it internally.
Sure, in the grand scheme nothing is likely to happen, but its at least better than nothing definitely happening.
I would imagine that if someone at an embassy kept getting reports of one of thier fleet cars being driven erratically/dangerously/illegally they would have to take some disciplinary action at the listed driver, just like any logbooked work car

It may be so for you, however I'd rather have some video footage than none, especially when there're plenty of moron drivers around Canberra, i.e. Captain RAAF and others that we all read about on the forum.
I don't ride like an idiot so I don't have to worry about self-incrimination.
We can argue the "big brother" factor all day, but at the end of the day it's a matter for you or me, whether we use cameras or not and what good/bad may come out of that footage.
