Looking at a set of new shocks for the bike now. Well have been for a while. But found the ones I want now. Ikon 7610-1528SP17. Will raise the back up a little. Give me more suspension travel and generally be better than the stock ones. Will also do the front springs while I've got it in the workshop. Just have to save up for a while to buy them.

 

Nice, let me know how they go. Im still weighing up my shock options..

Nah. Rarely have anything I'd like to get rid of.

Looking at spring rates while I'm sitting around doing nothing (sick).
According to the guys in the US, the springs they like to use a softer spring than the 7610-1528 shocks come with. Even in heavy weight applications they like something about the same, or softer, than the springs it comes with.

 

That's because they only ride in straight lines and don't need suspension that's actually functional

 

Well, I would like shocks that don't bottom out as soon as I hit a corner. The springs in the 1528 shocks is in the medium to light range of Ikon springs.
The way I've noticed some setups the guys from US use is soft spring with high preload. Gives that gentle ride down the highway.
The other one that is funny is when they tell you to upgrade the front as well. Then you tell them you have, but still not happy with the spring rate. So the next guy agrees with the first and tells you should upgrade the front.

 

May I suggest a trip to Laurie and a pair of Ikons?

 

i thought you did something to the front a little while back (If not i have read about using Dyna internals or something like that on the 48's which is a good fix. i could dig up the article if needed

I do read good things about Ikon and as Lurch mentioned plan a trip to Laurie's to have it set up

What about YSS..though probably similar to ikon

 

The modification I did was the Dyna internals. But the springs are still sagging. The rear used to be OK at 2/5 solo, and 4/5 with a pillion. Now it's 4/5 solo and bottoming out at 5/5 with a pillion. And the front is starting to feel like the GS.

 

Might end up doing a trip to Laurie to pay for some advice and maybe set up some shocks.
