    Hi all,
I decided to get myself a bike and purchased 2016 CBR500RA Orange. I have got my L's last week. Very exciting, yet to take delivery of the bike, waiting for helmet and other gear. Hope this winter won't scare me off bike too much.

    Regards
    Gin

    Welcome,
I'll try not to judge you too much on your new bike (standard bias, should of bought a GS500 :) ).
Riding isn't too bad in the winter if you've got the right gear. And it's a lot of fun. Hope to see you on a ride at some point.

I didn't even know what a CBR500RA was until just now (thanks to my friend Mr Google). It certainly looks the business and the full fairing will help with the cold Canberra climate. With regard to the cold, and further to the information on General Bike Stuff mentioned by Miggzie above, I have just read the "Winter Gear from a really skinny guy" (http://canberrariders.org.au/home/2016/winter-gear-from-a-really-skinny-guy/) which should also point you in the right direction when it comes to keeping Jack Frost at bay.

Hope to see you on the road; don't forget to wave !

I would have to sell one of my children to get all those goodies in one order, which leads me to the obvious question, do you run an international drug cartel?

I would be keen to know how the Five WFX Tech gloves perform, as they are also on my short list to replace my ageing Bieffe winter gloves.

I have been planning for a while, which bike which gear [emoji6]. What worked for me is search every motorcycle website in oz for deals and then get your local guy to match the price. Also some items were reduced, because I just bought the bike from them.

I will surely post my opinion on the gloves.

Welcome aboard mate. Glad you managed to get something from my article.
It looks like you've set yourself up with both the right bike and the right gear.
Also keep your eyes out for @Miggzie 's learner sessions that come up every now and again both here and on FB.

Congrats on the purchases and welcome aboard! I saw a 2016 cbr500r parked at ANU the other day, damn good looking bike (looks better than the current 1000rr imo). I'm pretty jealous ;)

Good job avoiding squid mentality and getting the proper gear before riding.

Don't know what the stock tyres are on the 500s, but if they're anything like the 250s I would change them at the first service interval, otherwise wet weather will be painful.

Welcome to the group and 2 wheels. Enjoy the free parking not just in Canberra but in other places. Heated grips are awesome as well as good jacket and pants. The group has people from all over the world in it (like me) as well as people born here. There are plenty of rides going as well as advice on the forum. Technical advice and spare hands are often offered in here or at people's houses.

Welcome aboard! I too started on a CBR500R back in the day! The only thing I ended up changing on it over the 18 months I owned it was a slip-on and tail-tidy. Hope you enjoy! Be sure to post up some happy snaps!

So far these are too good but we are not into minus degrees temperatures yet I suppose I would get a better idea in 2 months time. Right now I am sweating a lot in them without even using the heated grips.

@Ginkana - Thanks for the feedback, I think you have a good buy with your gloves. I, however, got a little impatient and sourced a pair of clearance model WFX1, which felt immediately warmer and more comfortable than my trusty old winter gloves.

I still think the WFX Tech is the better glove, however, at almost 60% off RRP the WFX1's won my dollars on the day.

Be careful what you wish for with regard to the minus temperatures, as it looks like you will get the opportunity to test your gloves out in Arctic conditions within the week. WP_20160525_001[1].jpg

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed riding home tonight up the Parkway in the damp in the dense traffic.

As for my WFX Skins, last couple of mornings I've felt the chill on my fingertips and part of the fingers, some of the time.
    Noticeable but very tolerable.
