    I dont want to set down any harsh rules or anything - but I will say this:

    A POST IN THIS SECTION SHOULD NOT BE YOUR FIRST
    HAVE THE DECENCY TO SAY HELLO FIRST

    For this reason you require Minimum 25 Posts to place a classified ad. You can respond however to any of the sale items

    Giving this a further bump for those who've just joined. I hate having to write these whingey things, strap yourself in because I'm gonna explain stuff and also point out other options. I won't do "how you should sell your bike" but something will be here on that soon.

    tl;dr: 25 posts and not a recent member to post a thread here. Please don't post your for sale threads in other forums if you can't post here.

    We have a couple of rules here. You need to be not a recent member (the exact time period I cannot remember) and you need to ALSO have 25 posts. These numbers are chosen arbitrarily but one has to set a line in the sand. That's the line we've chosen.

    The reason for this is simple: we're a community of people interested in motorcycles. We allow members to post stuff for sale as a privilege; it isn't why we exist. We aren't CanberraMotorbikeSales, nor do we ever wish to be.

    If you don't like that we've set restrictions on who can post stuff for sale, well, there's plenty of other places to list it for sale WHERE YOU WILL GET MORE VISITORS VIEWING YOUR BIKE. More on these places in a moment.

    Forums can be great places to buy bikes and great places to sell bikes. Primarily this is where people buy trusted bikes from trusted sellers. These are generally going to be the members who are established or have been around for a bit. Someone rocking up and their first post is to sell a bike probably isn't going to be a trusted member so the value of a 'known bike' from a great community isn't there.

    There are plenty of great places to sell your bike. Below is a non-exhaustive list.

    Free
    (potentially has $$$ options too)
    * AllClassifieds: http://allclassifieds.com.au/
    Sort of canberra local classifieds. Started as an offshoot to allhomes; it has a national reach but almost no-one posts stuff from farther afield than Canberra and the southern NSW areas. Free for less than 5 images. Some paid options around preferred listings or more photos but I've never needed them.
    * Gumtree: http://www.gumtree.com.au/
    I have sold a lot of bikes recently and most of the interest has come from Gumtree. Free, you get 15 images to go with your post. There's a few options to have preferred listings etc but I have never used them.
    * BikeHaggle.com.au: http://www.bikehaggle.com.au/
    Free through to fully uber promoted options here. This is the old Formula Xtreme classifieds rebranded and as a more standalone thing. More track/race bike oriented but lots of road bikes, dirt bikes, parts and apparel here too.

    Facebook groups
    Not on Facebook? Well, FB groups are useful (there's even a CanberraRIDERS group). In the local ACT/southern NSW area there's a few options as well, such as:
    Canberra Motorbikes For Sale Or Swap
    Tyson's Cars, Bikes and Boats Buy Swap or Sell (Got something under $1k? Tysons group for such cheapies might be your place)
    Buy Swap Sell Canberra and Queanbeyan
    Motor bikes 4 Sale Australia
    The next two are a bit more track oriented, but since that's often what I care about I'm gonna promote them too.
    Aus Track Riders Buy, Swap and Sell
    Historic Racing Motorcycles - for sale or swap

    Not so free
    * Bikesales: http://www.bikesales.com.au/
    Took over BikePoint and a couple of others. They do claim to have the largest reach and you get a bunch of people viewing your ads here. That said, I haven't had as much interest here as I have had elsewhere for the bikes I've sold in the last couple of years. The more mainstream your bike, the better this option is. $40 for a listing plus also some extra things like spam protection and all of that.
    * Tradingpost: http://www.tradingpost.com.au/
    The grandparent uber classifieds option. Not quite as popular now, but still somewhat popular.
    * eBay: http://www.ebay.com.au/
    Possibly good for classics or HOLY CRAP I NEED THE MONEYS FOR THE HONEYS RIGHT NOW. Looking at some listing fees plus about 9% commission to ebay once it's all over.

    While we're sorry we have to set rules, we do have them for a reason. Please respect that fact. Welcome to our community if you're a newcomer, despair not that you cannot immediately list your motorcycle for sale here, and hopefully these give you some pointers if you're in the situation of wanting to sell a bike but don't fit into the rules we have set.
