It may keep them off it, but if you reread the quote in your signature line, you'll see it's not going to be entirely safe ;)

Not too much to really show. At the moment, MIZ and I are sanding the fibreglass fairings, they're not even in primer.

The bike looks identical to when it went into MotoGarage, just has more power, runs better, stops properly (new pads + rebuilt front and rear calipers) and looks a tiny bit more trick with blue braided lines (which you can hardly see, anyway).

Depends if it has flowers on it or not.

Thanks for the photos. I love seeing before and after photos of projects. Even if I am totally unskilled at doing stuff myself, I can live vicariously :)

I reckon you should leave the gearsack on for track day though!

    Two words.

    Particle protection.

    Two more words.

    Lung disease.

(Sorry, I am in the NSW Ambulance Service and a bit sick of seeing peeps in their 40's and 50's dying of lung diseases, whether or not that involved spray painting/sanding.)

Yeh thats very true. I am glad to hear you do wear one, I hate the thought of anyone not wearing the proper protective equipment for whatever task they undertake, as I am sure you do too.

Edit: Sorry if my previous post came across nasty. Was surely not intended in that fashion.

This isnt my first rodeo, and wearing appropriate protective gear whilst sanding and painting is mandatory if you're going to be within < 50 feet of it. Hence why Supa and i both have twin filter Particulate P2 rated masks and respirators and tbh if they're good enough to wear whilst handling uranium dust, then they're more than appropriate for sanding Gel-coat on fibreglass.

I used to build models, cars planes etc, and purchased a single filter mask for airbrushing. It was a real surprise how it could keep so much out of your lungs, couldn't smell a damn thing until you took the mask off.

Will love to see your finished work Miz, being able to prep and spray a bike or car is a talent that would take a lot of practice.

I can't show you the final work yet, since we're still at the sanding stage... and this is only for the temporary paint job :).

But I can show you the lovely twin filter mask, as modelled by me in South Australia this year while sampling high-uranium granites.

I replace the filters after each fieldwork stint; I don't like alpha emitters making it to my lungs.

Doesn't mean it stops everything, and the paint dust from fine sand paper is a lot finer than the dust one deals with on drill rigs, while smashing the shit out of big lumps of rock etc.

    Okay, so back on topic.

So far, progress stands at all panels and tank have been hit with one round of 120grit and tonight will get a second go at 120 and then a round of 200. Having a little mouse sander and polisher is quite handy for the larger faces, and the tank. Someone at Suzuki decided it would be AWESOME to have so many curves and nooks, that most of it needs to be done by hand anyway.

I'm taking the tank mostly back to bare metal (wasn't planning to but after finding some serious deposits of bog and filler under 6 layers of paint...) I'll do it properly for the Barbie scheme, just makes things easier for my final go.

I know some of you are thinking "why two goes of 120? Why not do it properly first go?" well, Seeing a the fairings were moulded off some that still had the blue sticker stripes on them so they were hellishly uneven and had rises and lows all over the place. (see pic below) I'd rather do it once, walk away do the remaining panels then come back and do a light guide coat and find anything i've missed in the first round. Same goes for the 200 and the wet/dry once the primer is on. Leason learnt when i painted the 808 - if you dont HAVE to take it to baremetal DONT, but find some bog.. then you've really got no choice if you want a flawless finish at the end.

So its coming along quite nicely, and so far so good. The rearcowl and seat surround will need a bit of filler and attention in the joins where they've grafted the two halves together, but other than that, theyre not too bad. Fingers crossed all the holes line up when we put them on the bike!
