... picked it up. Handles awesomely. Perhaps a touch stiff for the road, but I did ask for track only :).

Based on the power delivery and the nimbleness of the new suspension, it is now an RGV250's fat American cousin.

She is, however, still called Willow. Before, it was willow because it swayed like a willow tree in a breeze, now, it gives you wood.

Even Stacey got wood when she rode it on a shakedown!

Okay, so i cant edit my previous post. boo.

Shakedown v1.0 for me, was really just to get used to how Willow feels and rides at slow speeds.

Stalling it first go, didnt do much for my confidence, but knowing Supa was behind me in the car meant if i was batting too far out of my league, i could get off, swap and drive home. A few laps around the block was the plan and once i was rolling i was fine. 3-5k rpm was a bit jerky. It just doesn't seem happy to sit and go slowly, (seeing as its built to go flat out on the track i was half-expecting it to be like that) so add a little feather of the clutch and it's all smooth sailing.

5-8k rpm HOLY SHIT MOTHER OF GOD JESUS RAPTOR! It just picks up and wants to take off (note to self: do something about that seat so i don't slide off the back). Theresa bit of a lull between 6 and 8k, a sort of low flat spot, it doesn't drop off immediately, just sort of dips and you keep into it and ride out of it. I didn't get to take it much above 80km/h, but I did get to crank it over. A few rounds on coulter dr - william hovell turn off and you really get a feel for the weight of the Gixxer. The 250r is a para twin weighs 170kg with a full wet tank and the Gsxr is a i-4 and 211kg with a dry tank.. The re-sprung and re-valved Forks, Rear shock rebuild and re-valved rear spring and 5mm extra ride height REALLY improved the handling from back when we took it on the Old Dunger Ride in May.

A bit of egging on from Supa at the last set of lights, and the only I had to stop for, i got to have a bit of a play with a quick take off. First through to 50km, second through to 75, up through third to Fourth and cruising. My god its got some down low, can't wait for Shakedown2 to take it above 8krpm.

So Saturday saw a little break in the weather in the morning, and it was now or never. I jumped on the Ninja, Supa on the 750 and out to a private road, very similar to cotter road over Mt Mac. Swap to the GSXR and toying with the clutch in the car park, I'm reminded "Slow, smooth and steady and you'll be fine". Off I went and took it real easy first round on the way up. Bit more gas vs the Ninja means the weigh difference was barely noticeable - but what i did notice was it turned easier and sharper than the 250r.

Time to have some fun on this thing on the way back down. Knowing the brakes were no longer compressed cardboard and now coupled with rebuilt master cylinder + Calipers and decent pads meant i could have a little more faith in the stopping power of the Gixxer than before. And by god i was on the money. Its stops on a dime. A bit more confidence after an hour on the bike meant i wasn't quite as afraid to throw it into corners a bit more than i do the 250r.

Back down and return back up the road and off down the straight. 100km/h sign comes up and its time to give it a handful. This time i made sure i took it above 8k. Back to 2nd, Up through to 3rd, through the dip, up to 4th, out to 5th and just nipping 6th before backing off and back down through the gears to pull up. Testing a little what the brakes can and will do with my weight and i was pleasantly surprised. Not too violent and grabby, but enough to know its there if you need it.

In Short, I cannot WAIT to get this out to WP and EC, this is going to be fun :D

I rode it to work today. I couldn't ride it all the time like that, but it was fun. It just begs to be ridden hard, which is entertaining when it is pouring with rain. I find I can ride it at the bottom of the tacho (3-5krpm) alright, probably my extra weight acts as a better damper for it coughing and spluttering, but it had a huge miss and backfire when cruising through the Kings Ave roadworks @ 4krpm in 1st. This also makes school zones entertaining. It's hard to pick the right gear to be in for them! It's nice on smooth roads, again, as you'd expect, it's fairly stiff, especially at the back. This reduces traction somewhat in the wet, though it had a lot more grip this morning than it did on the Twilight ride. It handles very nicely on smooth things, doesn't feel anywhere near as old anymore.

I am quite impressed with Pilot Pures in the wet; I expected them to be a bit more bum but they've got heaps of grip!

When i said i was going to paint it pink, i meant it...

    DSC_1832.jpg

All the fairings and the tank are now primed and beginning to get their pink treatment. Dear god, they're really fluro pink!! Whilst cleaning out the garage today, I found all my airbrush and pin-striping gear, and I found my Metal Flake pearls..

    DSC_1833.jpg

I used the Fairy Dust Flake (white one) when i painted my 808, and have a tonne left over. I bought the Blue flake for a friends Focus, but we never got around to painting it, so I've gotta find something to use it on! They're about $90 a bag and they last forever. You don't need a lot when you're putting it in the clear coat (depending on how thick you want the glitter)

    DSC_1834.jpg

Sadly you cant really see it, but the Fairy Dust flake isn't white, its a combination of really subtle pastel glitters, (white, apricot, light blue, purple and pink) its really subtle, and unless the sun catches it juuuuuust right, its practically invisible! :)

    DSC_1837.jpg

The fairings are currently sitting in the sun, baking away, and the tank is getting its final coat of primer before it gets a rub back and a coat of pink. I'm on the lookout for a cheap WHITE tank pad (cant have it blue, it'll totally clash) and a set o

After the fairings get their clear coat (and the Fairy Dust flake) i'll be putting a set of StompGrips on the tank and going a little bananas with the stickers :)

Ummm, you do realise that they won't let you ride this at EC seeing as your not licensed for it on the road don't you?

... she has an MA licence on the way. Otherwise 16 year old kids couldn't ride proper race bikes at EC ride days.

Pretty sure painting a Gixxer anything but blue/white or black is against the law.

    I'll fight you about it.

Don't worry dude, the pink is for 18/12 only. The actual colour scheme is going to be the standard 1991 pearl white/two blue colour scheme, just transfered onto the race glass and extended over the headlight.

EDIT: If you wanna fight about it, I put $10 on MIZ. She's got an evil punch. Also, pink happens to work nicely as a quick and dirty guide as to high/low spots so we can get the sanding of the oddities in the raceglass sorted out :).

C'mon, every man and his dog has a blue & white gixxer... what ever happened to bucking the trend with something that stands out? something like 'safety yellow' perhaps? :mmmmm

    (That's my k3, which I replaced with another silver/black bike, a certain MS2R1k).

I just like the white/blue/blue colour scheme of the 91's :).

Finished painting and stickering it yesterday. Its *so* pink its orange. Like brain searingly bright. Its Matte, but it still burns your eyes.

Will be pulling the road gear off tonight and putting all the track stuff on it. :) will post pics.
