    I've decided to look into a second bike and want something cheap and crappy-ish that I can rip around the track on and maybe use to get to work occasionally. I thought this would be a tall order, however I've found quite a few, but nothing too local so I thought I would put this out there.

    Criteria:
    * Supersport
    * Post 2000 model
    * 600cc or moar powaaaahhhh!!
    * Hopefully less than 60,000kms on it, but I'm flexible if it's been looked after
    * Around $3k.
    * Must have rego (even if it's only a week) and be ready to ride. I can't pick up with a trailer and will need to ride it away. Unless you're offering an absolute bargain then I'll sort something out.

    Things I don't care about:
    * Mods
    * Carbs or Injected. Happy with either. Can tune both.
    * Colour. If it's bright pink I will just paint it, or get pink leathers, whichever looks cooler.
    * Make. Been looking a Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda and Kawasaki so yeah, whatever.

    I have found, for example, a 2001 Yamaha R6 with 56k on it for $3200. But it's location means flights and much effort so I'm looking local first. Also found a local ZX-9R that I'm waiting to hear more on.

    Anyone got/know of anything that fits the bill?

    Keep an eye out on allclassifieds and Canberra Motorbike's for sale or swap on FB. Seen a fair few decent bikes that'd fit your bill in the last little while. I've nearly bought a couple as commuters

    Or just try and track down a true trackie as they'll have a lot more fruit on em and lower km's.

    Yeah, there was a pretty nice CBR954RR on the swap 'n sale group until this morning when I prompted the guy to delete it by asking if it was still available. Other than that there's nothing at the moment. Keeping my eye out there for sure.

    Streetable ends up costing ya more money in the long run than one that isn't. Utes are cheap to hire for an hour or two (or a day or two).

    Maybe, but I've already found a few that suit but are a day trip away to pick up. The biggest issue though is justifying to the boss buying a bike that I can't ride on the road. I just don't think she's quite ready for that yet. Baby steps. I'm also wanting to lower the number of K's i'm putting on the Gixxer so something I can ride to work too would be nice.

    While I may be thinking of getting rid of it, $3K is a bit low, have you seen my custom paint job? :p

    You will just waste money if you have to rego a track bike. $700 a year will cover quite a few track days or tyres. Plus you will get a far better bike if you buy a dedicated trackie. Cheaper to fix too if you do drop it.

    Honestly, I reckon you should stretch another 500 and buy the following bike which was advertised on Facebook Track Junkies Sales page on 7 May.

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/395188990584795/

    03 Yamaha R6 track bike
    $3,500 – Sydney

    Track bike only. Cannot be re-registered. Perfect beginners bike. Ready to race. Comes with lots of extras incl. rear sets, Ohlins internals (suspension set by Hoey for an 80kg rider) GP race shift, brand new Brembo 19RCS master cylinder fitted by Race bike services who also just serviced the calipers 1 track day ago. Also has Ohlins steering damper and a Yoshimura can. New power switch also and a quick action throttle. Comes with Dunlop front and rear slicks with at least two track days left.
    The engine is fantastic with a massive amount of pull up the top end. Awesome bike to ride.
    PM me if you're interested.
    P.S Comes with tyre warmers and both stands.
    Bargain or what!!!

    Also, there's usually someone going to wakefield days who has a spare spot on a trailer. Hire a trailer for $70 on the other days. Still cheaper than rego'ing a crappy road bike :p

    But I don't have anything to hook the trailer up to. ;)

    I'm now realising I probably shouldn't have called it a trackie, seeing as how many people are getting hung up on that. Getting on the track is just what has prompted me to move on this. While I DO want to run it on the track whenever I can, without the pressure of ruining my nice shiny road bike, I'd still like to commute on it and save the Gixxer for the weekend or those days I feel like riding it to work. I'm just not in a position to get a full-time track bike as I have no car, no trailer, no garage of my own (co-habiting while house is being built), no way of justifying the purchase of a bike I can't ride on the road to the boss, etc, etc.

    It would just be way more hassle right now. Maybe next year when I have my own garage.

    If you're gonna commute on it, and sounds like a financially sensible compromise is needed... any reason you don't find a 300 or a 250 and be ready to do Ninja cup sort of shenanigans in a bit of time?

    Otherwise basically what you've asked for is a bikesales search on those criteria and buy the one with the most fruit for $3k then.

    Ninja 300. Guy says unregistered, actually is rego till October. http://allclassifieds.com.au/motorc...b?viewstatus=5906f1abad224bb7bd99413de51aa19b

    Bargain him down, bam, perfect for getting ready for Ninja 300 cup tilt in 2016 :). And way cheaper to rego, $250/year versus $600. And good for a commute too.

    Rego wise it (or anything else) doesn't even need to be registered, just get a permit for it and ride it home from wherever.

    Sticking with Suzuki: http://www.bikesales.com.au/private/SSE-AD-3450523/1997-Suzuki-GSX-R600

    I personally prefer a 750 SRAD from that era but the only one in your budget is unrego'd in Vic.

    Could go worse than an SV650; twin cup is starting to re-develop with more ER6s and Hyos coming in; I know of a well sorted one about to go up for sale, complete with decent fork internals in the front, zx10 rear shock and gsxr calipers ;). It's even in the ACT.

    Which I have done, and found many I'm interested in. One I've kinda got my heart set on is an '01 R6 located in Horsley. But getting to Horsely would be a bit of a hassle, and buying without looking first is a bit of a risk which can end in a long round-trip for nothing. So before I committed to that I just wanted to see if anyone here knew of anything local that I hadn't found.

    That's not a half bad option. Thanks. I'm actually going to look into that one. Cheaper on fuel too! Only concern is what it would look like around Wakefield being ridden by a giant 6'2" apeman. haha.
