    Nothing lasts...

After 85,000km or so, an unspecificied number of which (but probably the last 25 years or so) have been spent hauling a sidecar, the clutch on my XS11 has started slipping. In hindsight, it may have been happening for a while - there were a few occasions on wet, greasy days last winter where I put the sudden spikes in revs down to wheelspin (though to be fair, they did seem to be accompanied by the back of the bike wriggling about a bit each time).

No mistaking it last night though. Hauling up the on ramp from Canberra Ave onto the Monaro in 3rd gear, got to the top at about 5000rpm and rolled on the rest of the throttle to punch past the couple of cars in front of me. Somewhere around 7000rpm, the revs suddenly swung up towards 9000 and acceleration tapered off. Clean, dry road. Near-new tyre. Sigh.

So, anybody interested in a 'How to' day at my place sometime in the next few weeks / months? It will probably take me a while to chase up the bits and work up the care factor to do the job, but that might give me a chance to also make up a manometer (do doo do do do) and demonstrate balancing a bank of carbs with one for anyone who wants to see it. :biggrin
