Yeah, and they screwed that up royally. See what greed does. They should get rid of those stupid V8 Supercars.

Mmmm Burnie Court they don't make em like that an
The basic reason that the rally was canned was because it does not attract the fans anymore. Reason? Because the cars are so fucking boring who would want to go and see them? I was involved in rallying for a long time, back to the Castrol rally days. Back in the days when you could watch Ari Vatanen melting tyres in Macarthur and Fadden in his 250hp rear wheel drive Escort at 10,000rpm. That was worth watching!!!! These days the cars are boring as bat shit!!! The only cars worth watching are the old ones, Datsuns, Mazdas, Escorts etc. I don't blame the government for withdrawing support for that. I do however think they are bunch of soft cocks for not biting the bullet with the $8million allegedly allocated to fund a dragway to actually build something that we could use instead of having to drive an hour down the road to run round that joke of a track at Goulburn.

I actually think the lousy numbers could have been because of the terrible job done promoting the rally. I would have loved to gone and seen it, but I never knew when it was on, if you needed to buy tickets, where to go, etc. I never saw TV ads, posters, bus ads, or even a rally car parked in the mall. Nothing.

+1 for that. Was living in Sydney at the time. Met up with my dad and came and watched. We had a good time.

I'm not saying that it wasn't a good race, good track for racing on or spectating, or good bonding time. What I was eluding to was the fact that it only ran for 3 years (2000 - 2002) and was removed due to, yet again, lack of interest for motorsport in the Canberra region. The statement was support for the question that Elmo posted...

    ..."Be there or be square"...

...Although I think the same voiceover guy did Parra Raceway in latter years with much the same slogan ;)

Yup, wasnt the best of circuits tho, and not many drivers enjoyed it... I remember watching the Super Touring Race there in 1997, Bob Tweedie in the Cavalier put David Auger into the wall for the second time (first was at PI which wrote the alfa 155 off) and then while under safety car, David Auger ran up to the Cavalier and kicked the door in hahahah :)

I'll see if theres a vid on youtube....

GMC400 just makes me think of the Barry Sheene "control tyre" video :D.

    Probably not.

Good video, Longhurst is an idiot. Amaroo was one of the best motocross tracks to race on in Sydney - loved the main straight jump. They used to hold the final round of the Golden Breed Mr Motocross there.
