bike mechanic

looking for a good bike mechanic, preferabley on the south coast (ACT ok though), who can do a major service on a Kawasaki ZRX 1200. The Kawasaki dealer in Bega has closed down, leaving little choice down this way. Thanks

I was talking to him this summer and he now manages the first motel on the left coming into Adaminaby and gave mechanicing away

 

Why not use Mick Cole in bega . I dont like the waiting for a few days but there work is as good as anywhere .

 

not being a kwaka dealer they weren't keen - i did try them though - the lack of bike shops is the ONLY thing that shits me about living down here

 

It was his son that was setting up the shop from memory, I think he was just helping out...obviously not for too long

It was a shame that they went under Doink was a good shop that offered service.

Surely you jest I wouldn't buy anything from there.

 

Especially when they charge $80 to fit tyres but yeah, Doink were really great. You from down this way?

I was mate, spent 12 years down there its a very nice part of the world.
My first dealings with Dickmoles was when I first moved down there I ordered 8 parts I was told that they charged for freight and the price was a little high. I was ok with that as I understood it was a special order and in a small town. When I picked the parts up I was charged $6 freight per item, now I would understand if they were large items but it was a head gasket some timing chains and bolts all packaged and posted in the same box!!!
I gave them one more chance to be very disappointed and ripped off again.
Needles to say when Ingo opened Doink I was happy for some healthy competition and gave all my bike business to them!!!

Rick is very knowledgeable and experienced and is always happy to help you understand what and why he is doing something. He changed the fork oil on my Blackbird from the standard 7.5W to 2.5W. I didn't ask him to, he just did it because he knew from his experience that Blackbirds handle much better with the thinner fork oil. He explained to me why...and as soon as I rode out his driveway, I knew he was right.

There are one or two here in Canberra that I WOULD NOT take my skateboard to due to their incompetence, but unless you really want to know who they are, I will leave them nameless.

Rick doesn't do work on cruisers... He's a Jap sportsbike specialist, and as such his workshop isn't set up to accommodate the longer wheelbases and wider bars of cruiser style machines.

 

What's anyones opinion of Mick Owen Motorcyles???

 

I personally havent had anything to do with them, but a couple of my mates take their larger adventure bikes (KTM990 and BMW 1200GS ADV) and dont ever say anything negative about them, so they must be ok.

 

My partner used to get her little GPX250 serviced at Mick Owen as it was right near her work, and he seemed to do a good job. From what I've heard, he's got a reasonably good reputation too
