The great Postie Bike Challenge is on again
And next week eleven women and forty-one men
Will ride Postie Bikes the long way round
To Alice Springs from Hobart Town

I’ve done the Postie Bike Challenge twice before
But feel the need to do it again - just once more
Some friends think I’m nuts (others know I’m sane)
But most who’ve done it already would do it again

There’ll be some trying conditions along the way
And plenty of others who’ll share them each day
This Challenge will take ten days to complete
And many interesting people we’re sure to meet

We’ll have run sheets and maps to guide our way
And ride roads less travelled most of the day
My GPS messenger will show where I’ve been
(You can watch it all day if you’re really keen)

From cold rainy weather to deep bulldust holes
Staying dry and upright will be the main goals
As we explore and experience the natural wonders
Of outback Australia - this great land downunder!

It took me to read the 4th paragraph to realize it's a poem. :D The postie challenge is awesome and for anyone who has not been I highly recommend doing it! Nice post.

I'd be keen, nothing those little bikes won't do except speed!

Now now, mine will do a genuine 98 km/h. Could lengthen gearing and get 100 out of it :D.

It's actually the rev limiter that holds it to 98 with the stock gearing, not just my fat arse :). At Marulan I could tap the rev limiter down the back section no worries. Well, except for the poo coming out trying to get it around corners to let you hit that speed.

I could only push 90kph downhill with the wind behind be and no mail on the bike, that said a good 'Legal speed limit' through roundabouts!

Survived the 2013 Postie Bike Challenge - fantastic event (again) with lots of thrills and no spills for me!!

We had to contend with sub-zero (degrees Celsius) daytime (and nighttime) temperatures, snow, mud, black ice (took out 10 riders - one broke her wrist), rain, and loose gravel roads (took out another few riders - one broke four ribs) - and that was just the first two days!! Days three and four threw in very cold conditions, rain, strong crosswinds and headwinds, thick fog and a motocross track that claimed another rider (he shattered his collarbone). The weather conditions for the rest of the event were great (although every morning started out quite cold) - especially loved riding through the Flinders Ranges, seeing the southern end of Lake Eyre (which is below sea level) and doing the Oodnadatta Track!

Pictures to follow with ride report ...

Well done, KathyL. You must've in the minority as I've heard it's mostly old men that go on the ride. :p

I've done three Challenges now and each time women have made up 20-25% of the participants and the blokes have ranged in age from 18 to 73 - all sorts of people from all walks of life!
