2-4 over 6 months is still fuck all compared to the number that happen on Mt Mac, even when you consider more people cut laps up and down Mt Mac. Plus funnily enough 2-4 over 6 months is in the noise of the stats. A massive increase in traffic over the last couple of years and a fuckload of prangs is way above the noise and it's noticeable.

Hence the fucking attention on this bit of road.

Early in in this thread it was all "oh the cops are fine, we will be fine, don't go bombing it past the village" and look where we are at. It wasn't fine, people have still crapped in the nest and a good bit of road is not going to be quite as fun for a while.

Yes there are other roads. But still, jeez, people don't need to keep crapping in the same nest.

    Not saying they are Gos.
You've got 2 main roads and ones just been closed till further notice.

did we actually ever get anything like 2-4 prangs every 6 months for every season of LWH rides ??? Seems like a hell of a lot more than I can remember.

There was one season a couple of years ago where there was at least 2 prangs in the one season - and I can recall a couple of specific prangs in different seasons/years. But never as many as 4 every year since we kicked off ??

@MickLC would know - he has been on more of them than anybody else here ;)

weren't you comparing the 2 roads as being the same for the number of prangs on each ?

I did a count back of last year and got 4, 1 not actually on the LWH ride itself.

Even percentage wise it's lower than on Mt Mac. And shit, given the amount of laps some people cut out there you'd think there wouldn't be any surprises to catch people out.

    Not at all.

I was saying that the amount of crashes on Mt Mac would be due to the amount of punters on that road, and the amount of laps that's done.

Apollo road has far fewer crashes, but way less punters, and certainly not be doing 'laps'. (what's the fatality stat's between Mt Mac and Apollo over the years? I don't know.)

Now that Mt Mac is essentially too hot to ride, where will the riders go, and where will they be crashing now. My guess is Apollo Rd.

I don't give a shit either way coz I'll be out in the dirt :ridgy

OK gotcha. Yes Mt Mac has now easily surpassed every other good road around the ACT for number of prangs......Apollo Rd gets a few - one of the very first CR rides saw one of our boys bin it on a corner on that road.

Dirt option sounds way good :) I can vouch for that ....

TBH I don't think the LWH ride is a good example to use either way. There have been a few offs over the years, although I'd hardly say shitloads, and nothing ever very serious. There has been some attention from the police afterwards when one was reported, but funnily enough it was at the Cotter end, not where the incident occurred.

If the LWH did start getting blitzed seriously then I'd just move the day that I did it and not advertise it for a while.

If people do start heading out to Apollo Rd instead of Mt Mac then I'd predict a huge increase in the number of accidents in comparison. The road is nothing like as smooth, wide, predictable or forgiving as Mt Mac. So much so that I don't really recommend it for inexperienced riders on group rides as it's almost a guarantee that someone will come off. It's also heavily populated by cyclists on a weekend so it wouldn't take long before complaints would start and it would get blitzed as well.

Sorry I probably should have been more clear (was on phone and cbf typing), I was using the LWH and Apollo Rd as sort of interchangeable, just to demonstrate that its a regular ride with crashes we know about. And those crashes happen in our small group, that aren't the biggest r*tards, doing 1 single run on 1 afternoon a week.

Which leads me to this point

    100% agree.

More bikes, more corners, more crashes, more police. Same as whats happening to Mt Mac.
I don't think the actual LWH event will be impacted, more so that road might get blitzed.

    Ebbs and flows.

:costsmoney.gif::costsmoney.gif::costsmoney.gif:Although for some..... Cutting laps on mount mac will ultimately cost them more cash in the long run than cutting laps at Wakefield...where they probably should have been in the first place...

I'd hazard a guess the lowest/cheapest speeding fine would be comparable to a day @ the track.... And let's face it who ever gets booked for less than 10kph over (esp out there)...

If tracks were more plentiful and accessible (didn't need to take a day off work) I'm sure many would. However with practically 0 weekend track time you will never get the punters off the road.

well not so much residents as being party poopers although there are maybe one or two. I think also the new dam wall maybe reflecting more sound down to the river and some picnickers maybe getting tired of listening to Mount Mac the Musical.

with the growing of Canberra it was always going happen. The Cotter isn't far from town anymore. Hopefully the positive is the Gov fix the Cotter end of Paddys river road .

boo to the thread derailment - although scammers downloading for nothing deserve everything they may possibly get. Its theft pure and simple.

Mt Mac the Musical - now *that* is an idea worth exploring.......maybe next spring.....

Apollo Road will never get anywhere within a bulls roar of the same number of punters using it as regularly as Mt Mac. For starters its too far away for the majority of weekend warriors. Its a nasty piece of road with hidden surprises and often a dodgy surface - which will also deter a lot of riders from going out there. But it does have a good burnout pad at the end.....

Hey, are you allowed to park the car and trailer in the pits at Mt Mac?

The lowest speeding fine (non-school zone) is $215, for anything up to 15km/hr under the limit, so yeah comparable to the actual track day entry fee. Escalates to $1811 for more than 45 over lol.

Full list of penalties here: http://www.legislation.act.gov.au/sl/2005-11/current/pdf/2005-11.pdf

EC/Winton/Broadford/PI still do weekend days yeh? I know they're pretty thin on the ground at WP granted.... not suggesting punters should get off the road altogether either but I'd be willing to bet their riding style would change on the road after a few track days...suddenly Mt Mac laps aren't so attractive.

Wow I was pretty close then.....granted EC is a bit more expensive but then you can ride like a bat outta hell all day and not worry about the PoPo.

agree 100%. Its funny how attitudes change once some real speed has been learned on a track, compared to the speed most punters actually do up and down Mt Mac 15 times on a Saturday morning.....and WP doesn't have any unattractive drop-offs on the outside of any corners either ;)
