Yeah, rock climbing will do that for you. I used to be able to do quite a few on just fingertips. (I can only manage 1 or 2 now), but apparently it's a neat party trick to do chinups on doorframes...

I used to spend 4 hours a day training 6 days a week ( public servant with a lot of free time at that stage ) so i think I have some valid knowledge and experience

got myself to a 95kg weight with 8%body fat and 18 inch arms, 47 inch chest and a 34 inch waist ( Yedi has seen the pictures for all those doubting thomas's)

at the time I enjoyed it a lot - now it bores me shit less - plus to many other demands on my time

any training a male does should include some form of resistance - your cardio should also include resistance - you burn the most amount of fat when you have resistance in your cardio regime - by doing weights and building lean muscle you will also burn more fat while at rest

Try the treadmill set at the highest incline ( 12-15%) at a pace that is just before you have to break into a run ( for me it was about 7kmph)

people who use a treadmill to burn fat and have it set at dead flat horizontal are more improving their cardio vascular capability than burning fat

    cross trainer machines are awesome

the best though if your gym has one is a properly revolving step machine where you have to lift your leg onto the next step as it comes down - climbing never ending stairs will get your body fat low very quickly

Now combine this with watching your sugar intake - its not fat in foods that you need worry about ( your body needs fat ) to much but rather the excessive amounts of hidden sugar in every thing that is out there - the sugar is not used immediately as energy and gets stored very easily

My problem is that I have been very lean all my life (very little body fat), even when I had a bit of weight on and since getting sick some years ago I have not been able to get back the weight I lost while I was sick. Prior to that I had big arms and chest from being in the building trade and it seemed it didn't matter what I ate, in fact I still eat whatever crap takes my fancy and in whatever quantities I like. It's something to do with my metabolism but when I try to put on weight I have to almost double my food intake however I don't need to eat much to maintain my weight either. I am not bragging, in fact I am having a bit whinge because it can be just as frustrating to not be able to put weight on as it is to not be able to lose it.

I will be the big Four-Oh next month and I am still waiting for my belly to form like all my mates. Can anyone give me advice as to how to bulk up in a healthy way without gym work? I get enough exercise from the dirt bike. Or is there a way to change your metabolic rate or some-such and so-forth. My dirt riding would improve if I had a bit more weight behind me.

eat double what you eat now. If eating isnt a chore, youre not eating enough. Also milk is a miracle weight gainer. Drink 4L of full milk (not skim crap) a day for 2 weeks plus double your eating should put some size on you.

Milk eh? I was going eat shitloads of bread but I was not sure if I should be going for protein instead but right now I'll try anything. Does anyone know if it possible to change your metabolism at all?

68 Commando- you probably have an excellent suggestion there, in fact you aren't the first to recommend the yeast diet.

Sumos are known to drink a case of beer a day... ;)

bread wont put size on you, just make you bloated and full. eat simple unprocessed foods (steaks, veges, chicken breasts etc) and A LOT of milk and youll put on good size not ultra fat size.

    I used to eat everyday:

    1 whole BBQ chicken
    500gm cottage cheese
    2L milk
    8 eggs
    500gm mixed veges
    500gm steak
    salad
    3 scoops protein powder
    large coffee in the morning.

Whilst lifting 3 times a week, put on 10kg of muscle in 3-4 months. Consistency is key. Get 8 hours sleep everynight, eat every 2-3 hours, DO NOT skip meals, lift heavy things often.

Took me <1 month to lose it after my prang and am now 5kgs heavier but HEAPS fatter :(

Holy crap Bluey! That sounds like hard work, and that's ignoring any weight lifting :)

I just bought 4 litres of milk hehehe so here we go, starting at 64kg (bloody huge!) you all now have the opportunity to witness my epic weight gain failure!

Just be consistent! Its the biggest failing of most people is they skip a meal or miss a days training, turns into two skipped meals, a weeks missed training and before you know it youve gone backwards  and SLEEP properly. 8 hours solid!

Also you dont have to drink it in one go lol. Skinny guy at work took me up on it, came in the next day he had 2x2L canberra milks on his desk and was halfway through chugging one... mistake. Spread it out with each meal.

Camerz sounds like you need a gainer not a protein powder. Most supp shops stock gainers which are essentially calorie dense powders stacked with carbs, protein, minerals etc. Above guy from work drinks 2 a day (total 900cals) in just shakes let alone food + milk.

I'll donate some of my body fat to you. They can lipo it out of me and squish it into you guys. There's enough extra fat to fatten up at least two of you skinny guys.
    Buggerit.:cry

Eat potatoes. I was 61kg before I moved in with Crowey, now 12months later and lots of potatoes (he loves potatoes) I can only dream of being 61kg again. Happy to donate some extra kgs to whoever wants them. :)

So I'm thinking of taking up Muay Thai Kick boxing. Can people recommend good gyms or tell me about the bad ones.

So far I'm thinking of joining Phoenix in Mitchell. I would prefer something Northside but would consider Southside if there are good reasons.

My mate is winning BJJ comps these days and he trained at Phoenix for a bit I'll ask him what it's like in general.

Instead of kickboxing, you could come to Keysi with me if you want.
